Mar 3, 2011 12:37 PM

  • The charge-off rate on commercial mortgages held by banks and thrifts was 1.36 percent in 2010—the lowest figure for any category. The figure, however, was above the level for 2009 (1.31 percent) and more than five times the 2007 level (0.23 percent).
  • Multifamily loans (1.53 percent) experienced the second lowest charge-off rate in 2010 of loans held by banks and thrifts. The figure was an improvement over 2009 (1.70 percent), but still more than seven times 2007 levels (0.21 percent).
  • Credit cards experienced the highest charge-off rates in 2010 (7.41 percent). But the figure was an improvement over 2009, when the charge-off rate peaked at 9.80 percent.
