The final numbers for December don’t come out until Thursday. The last pre-Christmas reading was bleak, however. The ICSC-Goldman Sachs chain store sales index for the week ending December 27 declined by 1.5 percent from the prior week, while the year-over-year pace tumbled by 1.8 percent.
