Try creating a center with a small town vibe and Main Street look while also incorporating two department stores and a hotel into a 853,000-square-foot lifestyle setting. That is exactly what developers Cousins Properties Inc. and Jim Wilson & Associates LLC asked CMH Architects Inc. to do with the Avenue Carriage Crossings project. The center, located adjacent to the upscale and historic town of Collierville, Tenn., works because of how architects flowed traffic through the center. The project includes brick detailing on buildings and walkways, a central village green, tree-lined sidewalks, fountains, sculptures and traditional street lights. Despite being a large project, the pedestrian always feels at home.
