SADI Award Categories

Your entry should fall within one of the following award categories:

Retail Centers

New Enclosed Center
Includes regional and super-regional malls; these are centers anchored by two or more department stores and/or big boxes; may include an outdoor hybrid component such as a village or restaurant district, but must have the majority of space enclosed.

Renovated or Expanded Enclosed Center
Includes regional and super-regional malls; these are centers anchored by two or more department stores and/or big boxes; may include an outdoor hybrid component such as a village or restaurant district, but must have the majority of space enclosed.

New Open-Air Center
Any multi-tenant retail-only project where there is no enclosed concourse or mall common areas. Nominees should include lifestyle centers or open-air regional malls.

New Community / Power Center
Includes neighborhood centers, community centers, power centers; these are centers anchored by supermarkets, drugstores and/or big-box stores.

Renovated or Expanded Community / Power Center
Includes neighborhood centers, community centers, power centers; these are centers anchored by supermarkets, drugstores and/or big-box stores.

New Mixed-Use or Multi-Use Development
Any project with three or more income-producing uses, including retail. Projects nominated in this category can be either be vertical mixed-use or horizontal multi-use. If there are a lot of nominations in this category, it may be split into two--one for mixed-use and one for multi-use.


Retail Stores

New Retail Store - More than 5,000 square feet
Includes department stores, specialty stores, supermarkets, freestanding stores, strip center stores, big-box stores, theaters and streetfront stores.

Renovated Store Interior - More than 5,000 square feet
Includes specialty stores, freestanding stores, strip center stores, theaters and streetfront stores.

New Retail Store – Less than 5,000 square feet
Includes specialty stores, freestanding stores, strip center stores, theaters and streetfront stores.

Renovated Retail Store – Less than 5,000 square feet
Includes specialty stores, freestanding stores, strip center stores, theaters and streetfront stores.

New Fast / Casual Dining
Interior design for restaurants that offer a slightly higher quality of food, service, and atmosphere than a fast-food restaurant. Projects should be part of retail projects and images and description should show how the restaurant fits into the overall retail environment.

New Upscale Dining
Interior design for establishments that undertake to provide a formal, structured dining experience at the premium end of the market. Projects should be part of retail projects and images and description should show how the restaurant fits into the overall retail environment.


One SADI trophy will be awarded to the highest-scoring and honorable mention entry in each category. Winners will be notified by mid-July 2008. The awards presentation will take place in September.
