In designing Harvey Nichols' largest store outside the United Kingdom, Callison looked to meld the retailer's luxury aesthetic with the atmosphere of the Dubai marketplace. The store is located within the mega Mall of the Emirates, next to the Via Rodeo collection of luxury shops. The design attempts to feed off that collection of retailers' strong structuralist elements, minimalist detailing, modern finishes and exceptional lighting. The mall façade, repeated on each of the store's three levels, presents a highly articulated geometric design. Spaces within the store are framed by designed ceilings, planned sight lines and other features. Judges found that the “coolness” the space exudes to be a delightful contrast to the intense heat common in the Middle East.
