Sep 1, 2006 12:00 PM

MBH Architects provides architectural services to clients who respect timelessness and quality. The firm is focused on providing our staff with training and education in the art of listening and responding to clients needs so that all parties are profitable and satisfied with the results. The built environment has a profound influence on society and architects are responsible for creating spaces that will make a positive impact on all individuals. From retail to housing to high-rise hotels we design wonderful environments turning spaces into vibrant integral parts of the community. Headquartered in the San Francisco bay area, MBH Architects practices architecture throughout the nation as well as internationally and has completed over 1,000 retail projects throughout these areas.

Santana Row:

The South Bay's premier living, shopping and entertainment center is one of the most prominent lifestyle centers in Northern California. MBH designed three residential buildings with a central courtyard and pool area set over a podium with retail below. This project was the first to use a revolutionary shoring system, ConXtech, which allowed for quicker and more cost-effective construction. The 160 apartment units are located over a thriving retail development yet the community is sheltered from the hustle and bustle on the street. The central courtyard contains lush landscaping reminiscent of the tropics, a beautiful fountain, a pool with an adjoining spa and a comfortable clubhouse for the use of the residents.

Sherwood Mall:

Stone Brothers & Associates called on MBH to modernize this retail center and make it a definitive destination for national and local retailers. Though the owners opted for a more conservative approach, MBH was able to de-mall Sherwood and bring some lifestyle elements to the enclosed mall while updating the interior to a theme befitting its name. The existing space was completely redesigned with a Craftsman style, using heavy timbers, simulated stone and a vivid color palette of earth tones — deep rusts and browns. The west façade was given outfacing retail to give Pacific Avenue a human scale streetscape. All entrances were recreated to make them warmer and more inviting. Sherwood's seating areas and customer service desk were newly outfitted with homelike fine furniture and granite countertops. A carousel was removed to increase seating and improve the visibility of the skylight above. Verdant landscaping was added, replacing artificial trees in the area.
