New Specialty Stores (under 2,000 sq. ft.)

May 1, 1999 12:00 PM, SHOPPING CENTER WORLD STAFF

BERGMEYER ASSOCIATES INC. TOZ * Beachwood, Ohio In the category of New Specialty Stores (under 2,000 sq. ft.), Bergmeyer Associates Inc., Boston, received an Honorable Mention for its design of TO- Z in Beachwood, Ohio.

This store is the premier of a new legwear brand and retail concept from Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Sara Lee Direct. Bergmeyer was challenged to create a concept that clearly and instantly illustrated the role of legwear as the primary finishing touch of conventional wardrobes. In addition, the store would have to showcase the strengths and appeal of the brand.

The design team also had to find a way to display many different legwear SKUs in an uncluttered manner. Individual bays along both sides of the store act as armoires, organizing the merchandise by category. In addition, tables placed on both sides of the entry provide focus to the featured product.

The warm-colored floor fixtures made of maple and powder-coated metal support the wardrobing theme, while the curved, honey maple cashwrap displays the store logo.
