SADI 2006 Honorable Mention: SNAIDERO

May 1, 2006 12:00 PM

There's little that unites the kitchens made by Snaidero. The Italian company works with many designers, and the results rarely resemble one another. For a new Los Angeles showroom, Snaidero found a building that offered plenty of room, but little personality against which product diversity could play second fiddle. Giorgio Borruso Design solved this disjunction conundrum by taking advantage of the space's high ceilings: The firm installed seven large fabric ribbons, in white and Snaidero's trademark orange, that twist and turn above the model kitchens. The device is a kind of airborne path that transforms the separate kitchen designs into a coherent story. The ribbons converge upon a cantilevered balustrade, too, making for a dynamic sidewalk scene.
