Welcome to Retail Traffic's Leaders in Retail Architecture 2003

Sep 1, 2003 12:00 PM, Warren Bimblick

As the magazine that brings together developers, retailers and architects, along with other parties involved in retail design, Retail Traffic is proud to present Leaders in Retail Architecture. This annual feature is more robust than ever and I thank each of the architecture firms that participated in this year's supplement. It's always an enjoyable and exciting experience for all of the staff on our magazine to work with the major players in the retail architecture field.

In an era when the shapes and sizes of retail developments are a veritable smorgasbord, the ability to match the particular talents and capabilities of retail architecture firms with projects is more challenging than ever.

In these pages, our editors talk with some of the leading architects in the retail field to explore the trends they are seeing now, and gain insight into where the future of retail design is headed. The response has been terrific. Some of the questions our editors asked were:

How popular are hybrid malls with consumers? With developers?

What are driving trends in retail development in 2004?

What is the successor to the lifestyle center concepts?

Retail architecture is truly a specialization. Just 10 percent of all architecture firms in America today work in retail. Here, we are fortunate to profile 18 of the leaders. They describe their capabilities and showcase their latest projects. Many of these firms have been winners of Retail Traffic's SADI Awards (Superior Achievement in Design and Imaging). Please e-mail me if you would to submit an entry for 2004.

We hope you find Retail Traffic's Leaders in Retail Architecture 2003 useful.

Sincerely,

Warren N. Bimblick
