ARROWSTREET

Sep 1, 2007 12:00 PM

Arrowstreet's success over four plus decades and more than a thousand projects is based on the passion and purpose the firm brings to every commission. As a firm providing architecture, planning, graphic and interior design services to developers and retailers all over the world, Arrowstreet has gained a reputation for challenging conventions and generating unexpected solutions to the challenges that arise with mixed-use developments and specialty retail.

Some trends that Arrowstreet believes will impact the industry for years to come are green design and consumer desire for authenticity.

GREEN DESIGN, HERE TO STAY

“Ten years ago no one wanted to talk about going green. Five years ago it was the marketing people who wanted to talk about it. Today it is the operations people who want to talk about it. It is the future of building in America.” John Cole, Arrowstreet principal, observes.

Arrowstreet, one of the leading U.S. architecture firms for sustainable projects and a recipient of the AIA COTE award, is currently working on green projects of almost every building type, such as mixed-use, retail, residential, office, hotel, civic and educational.

BACK TO ROOTS RETAIL

“Developers are reaching back to the roots of Main Street retail to provide environments that are engaging in themselves while adding back services and uses that are typical of traditional urban centers, for instance civic buildings, supermarkets, housing, and offices,” says Kevin Nice, associate principal.

Current Arrowstreet projects that reflect these trends include Patriot Place, a mixed-use development adjacent to the New England Patriots' football stadium; Smith Haven Shopping Center on Long Island, N.Y., a lifestyle center addition as well as renovation, and the new L.L. Bean Hunting & Fishing Store in Freeport, Maine.
