CMH ARCHITECTS, INC.

CMH principal Everett Hatcher points to Bayer Properties' The Summit in Birmingham, as a turning point for his firm, “When we designed The Summit in the mid-1990s, many of the upper-tier retailers had never gone into an open-air center,” he says. “There were a few projects that predated The Summit, but I would say it was easily one of the first five in the country that pioneered that format.” Hatcher says the firm is attuned to the needs of clients, whose own success depends on being on top of retail trends.

“CMH demonstrates an understanding of the issues a developer encounters in trying to design a beautiful retail venue, while at the same time understanding cost implications that need to be attended to in order to make these projects successful,” says Bayer principal David Silverstein.

While lifestyle centers are still strong, they have evolved into mixed-use developments, and developers are increasingly branding their products so shoppers will have a consistent experience. Lou Conti, vice president at Cousins Properties notes, “CMH is a real pleasure to work with. No other architectural firm has partnered with Cousins more than CMH in the creation and evolution of our signature lifestyle centers — The Avenue. Since launching this brand in 1995, each of our designs has grown in detail, gracefulness and quality to out-perform the field and ourselves. We look forward to continuing this winning partnership founded on excellent quality and efficient use of our development budget. CMH is a developer's architect.”

Paul Glascock, Colonial senior vice president, says Colonial was extremely pleased with the design of Colonial Pinnacle at Turkey Creek in Knoxville, Tennessee. “CMH has their fingers on the pulse of what the customer is looking for today in shopping center design.” Glascock says. “They are great at creating that sense of place.”
