Earvin “Magic” Johnson's Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds and Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse will develop the $90 million, mixed-use Village Commons in Baltimore. An urban in-fill project located near Johns Hopkins University, the venture will have 170 condominiums, a parking garage and 30,000 square feet of ground retail.
Forest City Enterprises Inc. promoted Brian Jones to chief executive of Forest City California West Coast Commercial Development. Jones has been with the company for 27 years. Colm Macken was promoted to president.
GVA Williams of Connecticut hired Ted Grogan as the firm's vice president. He was formerly a broker with CB Richard Ellis specializing in tenant and owner representation.
Taubman Centers Inc. says Nordstrom will anchor the proposed 800,000-square-foot Oyster Bay mall in Syosset, N.Y. Nordstrom will replace the previously announced Lord & Taylor. Expected to open fall 2007, Neiman Marcus also will anchor the mall.
DeBartolo Development LLC hired J. Wiley Lott as development officer. He will develop shopping center and mixed-use projects in the Southern United States. He was formerly a director of real estate for distribution centers at Wal-Mart.
DBN Development LLC will develop the 200,000-square-foot San Jacinto Esplanade in San Jacinto, Calif. It will feature a supermarket, Walgreens and a Starbucks. Construction is slated to begin this year with completion expected in the summer of 2006. DBN also bought an adjacent 19-acre parcel for a second phase called Esplanade West.
The Richard E. Jacobs Group Inc. and CBL & Associates Properties Inc. announced two hotels, a 116-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 134-room Residence Inn by Marriott, at their 1.7 million-square-foot Gulf Coast Town Center in Lee County, Fla. The Courtyard is expected to open November 2006.
Newtown Oldacre McDonald will develop the 800,000-square-foot Highlands shopping center in Bristol, Va. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall with stores opening late 2006.
The Mills Corp. hired Gordon “Tad” Glenn, formerly of the Rouse Co., as its executive vice president and general counsel. Mills also announced that Kenneth Parent will retire as chief operating officer and Tom Frost will retire as executive vice president.
Passco Real Estate Enterprises Inc. hired Todd Siegel as asset manager for the company's regional mall portfolio. Formerly overseeing the Western United States for CalPERS/First Washington Realty, he will now handle leasing and management duties for 3 million square feet of mall space.
Nadel Retail Architects hired Mark Mikelson as managing principal of the firm's Las Vegas office. Nadel has offices in Nevada and California.
Archon Group LP, in partnership with Monroe Investment Partners LLC, will develop a 420,000-square-foot power center called Chatham Market on Chicago's South Side. The project will be anchored by two big-box retailers.
Edens & Avant hired John Brausch as its vice president-property controller. He will be responsible for budgeting, lease accounting and financial reporting for each center. Brausch was formerly the vice president of financial operations at CarrAmerica Realty.
