Georgia music and sports halls of fame to open annexes at Discover Mills

May 24, 2001 12:00 PM, SCW Staff

ATLANTA--Discover Mills, the Mills Corp.'s 1.2-million-sq.-ft. regional mall under construction in Gwinnett County, Ga., announced a licensing agreement with the Georgia Music and Sports halls of fame.

The agreement will bring to Atlanta the first-ever annexes for either museum, both of which are located in Macon, Ga. The Discover Mills annexes will promote awareness of the Macon facilities and provide further recognition of Georgia's music and sports heritage.

"There are so many talented and well-known musicians and sports figures from Georgia, what better way to educate and entertain our visitors with a tribute to them inside Discover Mills," Larry Siegel, chairman and CEO of The Mills Corp., said in a statement.

The sports and music annex areas will be located in the "Georgia Walk of Fame" neighborhood of the shopping center. Each will feature rotating exhibits filled with memorabilia, photographs and video or audio footage on loan from the larger museums located just south of Atlanta, in Macon.

In the Music Hall of Fame at Discover Mills, visitors might see items from Georgia natives such as Ray Charles, Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood, Hovie Lister, Amy Grant, Otis Redding, Johnny Mercer, Ray Stevens, Brenda Lee and Gladys Knight, as well as the Atlanta Symphony. Guitars, well-worn shoes, suede jackets, hats, harmonicas and sheet music will be on display.
