Eroding Market Share

Mar 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Winn-Dixie's market share deteriorated in most markets in 2003, according to Trade Dimensions research. Several elements were to blame: sliding same store sales (down 6.7 percent on average), limited new store openings and a large amount of new openings by competitors. In 2002, Winn-Dixie's average weighted local market share stood at 17 percent. For 2003, it dwindled to 15.3 percent.
