Expansions

Oct 1, 1998 12:00 PM, SCW Staff

Trexlertown, Pa. - The new owners of Trexlertown Plaza in Trexlertown plan to double the size of the 212,000 sq. ft. shopping center, adding another 200,000 sq. ft. of retail space on 40 vacant acres at the 70-acre site. Potential uses include retail, hotel, apartment and senior-care facilities. Existing tenants include Redner's Warehouse supermarket, Ames, Sears Hardware, Rite-Aid drugstore and Subway. Trexlertown Plaza Associates, a joint venture of Garden City, N.Y.-based Polimeni Organization and The Kalikow Group, Westbury, N.Y., acquired Trexlertown Plaza last fall.

Honolulu - Plans are in the works for the next phase of expansion at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu. The project entails an entertainment and hospitality complex that will feature specialty retail, multiplex theaters, themed dining and a hotel. The proposed design for the entertainment component of the expansion includes 543,000 sq. ft. of space on six levels between Keeaumoku Street on the west, Ala Moana Pacific Building on the east, Kapiolani Boulevard on the north and Kona Street on the south. The hospitality portion of the project is proposed as a 450-room hotel on top of the entertainment complex. To date, Virgin Megastores and Virgin Cinema along with restaurateurs Rainforest Cafe and The Cheesecake Factory have signed letters of intent to be part of the expansion.

Ala Moana Center is an open-air shopping center anchored by Liberty House, Sears, JCPenney and Neiman Marcus. It is owned by D/E Hawaii Joint Venture and is managed by General Growth Management of Hawaii Inc., a subsidiary of Chicago-based General Growth Management Inc.
