Growing Up

Jul 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Jones Apparel Group continues its effort to build Barneys New York into a national brand. It announced the opening of the 13th and 14th Barneys CO-OP stores at the Grove in Los Angeles and The Domain in Austin, Tex.

The Grove location measures 9,200 square feet while the Texas store measures in at 6,500 square feet.

Jones has made growing the CO-OP concept, which is aimed at shoppers between the ages of 15 and 30 years, a big part of its strategy since buying Barneys, a deal that was finalized in January 2005.

It has its eyes set on eventually opening 100 CO-OP locations to complement the Barneys flagship stores it operates in Manhattan, Beverly Hills, Chicago and Boston.

Jones Apparel Group also operates three regional full-price Barneys stores and 12 outlet stores for the chain. Jones has now opened 10 CO-OP stores since its acquisition of Barneys.
