Louisiana is getting its biggest post-Katrina retail boost with plans for a 1.3-million-square foot lifestyle center with a power center component planned for Denham Springs, La., in greater Baton Rouge.

Joint venture developers Jim Wilson & Associates Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., and Baton Rouge, La.,-based Creekstone Cos. are set to break ground on the first phase of construction of Juban Crossing and Juban Market Place in the summer of 2007, with the first stores expected to open in the spring of 2008.

“It's an area that experienced a lot of growth since the storm,” says Will Wilson, vice president of development for Jim Wilson and Associates. “All of a sudden it's coming into its own.”

Trade area annual household income exceeds $1.5 billion, according to developer Jim Wilson.

The project, on 471 acres, will be the largest mixed-use development in the state, according to Wilson.

The developers envision 1,150 upscale residences, 385,000 square feet of office space, four hotels, 15 restaurants and entertainment venues.
