Ferguson, Mo. - Grand opening festivities recently were held in Ferguson for The Crossings at Halls Ferry, a $29 million redevelopment project of St. Louis-based Walpert Properties Inc. Tenants at the new, 277,000 sq. ft. center include Home Depot, Shop 'N Save supermarket, JoAnn Fabrics, Video Update, Ashley Stuart, Simply Fashions and Nu-Fashion. The Crossings at Halls Ferry is located on the former site of Central City Shopping Center, widely known for a large Central Hardware store built in the early 1960s that looked like the St. Louis airport terminal. The only building remaining from the former center is a newly renovated structure at the northwest corner of the property housing Emperor's Wok, Grand Beauty Supply and Computer Renaissance. Completion of the entire project is scheduled for November.
Houston - Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor will be joining the anchor lineup at Memorial City Mall in Houston. This news follows an earlier announcement of new Neiman Marcus and Foley's department stores. Scheduled to be completed first is the new, 300,000 sq. ft. Foley's store, which will open in fall 1999, at which time the existing Foley's building will be demolished to make room for Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor along with smaller, specialty store space. Lord & Taylor will follow with a two-level, 120,000 sq. ft. store scheduled for a fall 2000 opening. The approximately 165,000 to 200,000 sq. ft., two-level Nordstrom store - the company's first Houston location - will open in fall 2001 along with the new, 150,000 sq. ft. Neiman Marcus store. Other anchors at the existing 1.3 million sq. ft. center include Montgomery Ward, Sears and Mervyn's.
Plans also are in the works for a phased renovation of the mall, to be completed in fall 2001, and the addition of deck parking. Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Taubman Centers Inc. has been managing and leasing the mall since late 1996 while also exploring redevelopment opportunities with the owner, Houston-based MetroNational.
