Renovations

Apr 1, 1998 12:00 PM

Youngstown, Ohio - A multimillion- dollar renovation of Southern Park Mall in Youngstown recently was completed by Indianapolis-based Simon DeBartolo Group. Work included the addition of a new, 25,000 sq. ft. food court as well as a complete remodel of the common area. Skylights, floor coverings, seating areas, landscaping, a fountain and new exterior signage were all part of the project. The mall also has added a 37,790 sq. ft., first-run cinema - Tinseltown, USA - on the perimeter of the parking lot. An ongoing remerchandising of the center continues. Southern Park Mall, which totals 1.2 million sq. ft., is anchored by Dillard's, Kaufmanns, JCPenney and Sears and features more than 120 specialty stores.

Chattanooga, Tenn. - Work is under way on a major, eight-month renovation of Hamilton Place, a 1.4 million sq. ft. mall in Chattanooga. The most extensive change will be the total reconfiguration of the exterior, lower-level entrance of the food court, resulting in the creation of additional space for more food tenants. Other changes throughout the mall will include new flooring, new interior landscaping, the addition of special seating areas, additional lighting, new handrails and new ceiling paint. On the center's exterior, the parking lot will be repaved and striped, and all signage will be upgraded. Grand reopening is scheduled for August.

Hamilton Place is owned and managed by Chattanooga-based CBL & Associates Properties Inc. The design and development of the center's renovation project has been created by the Wichita, Kan.-based architectural firm of Law Kingdon. Wichita-based Greteman Group is handling graphic design work, and Chattanooga-based EMJ Corp. is the general contractor.

Orem, Utah - Ground was broken in January for the renovation and expansion of University Mall in Orem, Utah. The first phase of the three-year project will include a complete transformation of the mall's interior, including removal of the roof and the installation of a system of skylights. In addition, interior decor will be refurbished and the exterior streetscape will be modified.

The project is part of a masterplan for the existing mall as well as 25 acres of land adjacent to the center. Plans are to expand the tenant mix and create a mixed-use facility that would include additional entertainment and restaurant concepts, possible government and civic uses, professional office space, and a convention hotel.

University Mall is owned and managed by Salt Lake City-based Woodbury Corp. Seattle-based Callison Architecture Inc. is the architect on the project, and Salt Lake City-based Greenwood Construction Co. is the general contractor.
