RESIDENTS SOUND OFF ON CALIFORNIA'S FUTURE

Sep 1, 2004 12:00 PM

The Public Policy Institute of California recently released a “Survey on California's Future” discussing economic conditions in the Golden State and residents' concerns about growth and its impact on California. Some of the survey's findings include:

49% of residents think population growth will make California a worse place to live two decades from now; only 25 percent say it will be a better place.

63% of Californians call traffic congestion a big problem in their part of the state.

73% of Californians believe that local voters — as opposed to elected officials — should be making important decisions about growth issues through the ballot box.

Only 12% of residents have a “great deal” of confidence that state government can plan effectively for future growth; 40 percent have “very little or none at all.”
