Tokyo Midtown

Sep 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Communication Arts Inc.'s design of the Galleria at Tokyo Midtown helps renew and re-image a downtown area, incorporates open space into a tight, multilevel site and includes design elements that the community embraced. The four-story, 500-foot-long open arcade hosts high-end tenants such as Harry Winston and Bottega Veneta and helps knit together adjacent office and residential towers. The 221,000 square feet of retail space sits neatly on a 19.4-acre site in part through the use of three courtyards arranged end to end. That, in turn, helped make way for a 4.5-acre park as part of the project. The choice of materials — glass with wood and wood veneers — evokes regional architecture.
