Oliver McMillan is converting the former Glenview Naval Air Station north of Chicago into a 1,100-acre mixed-use project, including The Glen Town Center, a $250 million, 1 million-square-foot retail, dining and entertainment destination. Scheduled to open in September, the center will be anchored by Von Maur, Galyans, grocer Market Foods and Crown Theatres. Gensler and Pappageorge Haymes are designing the center and Mid-America Real Estate Corp. is leasing it.

Sears' new Sears Grand concept will debut at Russell W. Grosse Development Co.'s 1.4 million-square-foot Jordan Landing in Salt Lake City this fall. One of a five-store pilot program to open in the U.S., the freestanding, single-floor store will feature shopping carts, a centralized cashwrap and include an expanded assortment of apparel, health and beauty aids. Slated for completion in early 2004, Jordan Landing will be anchored by Cinemark Theatres, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble and TJMaxx among others.

Suzanne McElyea joined Orlando, Fla.-based Commercial Net Lease Realty as senior vice president of acquisitions. Previously an accountant and consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, McElyea specialized in lease, joint-venture and off-balance-sheet structuring, most recently focusing on synthetic leases.

To bring more local mom-and-pop tenants into its 150,000-square-foot Golf Plaza II in Mount Prospect, Ill., DiMucci Development is converting a 22,000-square-foot former Super Crown automotive store into a “retail arcade.” The new space has room for eight retailers. The Palatine, Ill.-based developer hopes to fill the space with small cafes, specialty merchandisers and personal services firms. Walgreen's and Dominick's anchor Golf Plaza II.

Paul Jacob is the new chairman at Baltimore-based RTKL Associates Inc. Known to coworkers and friends as “PJ,” Jacob succeeds chairman of 30 years Harold Adams, who will continue to consult as chairman emeritus. Jacobs, most recently vice chairman, established the firm's L.A. office, guided the creation of in-house graphic design and branding consultancy ID8, and spearheaded RTKL expansion into China.

A $300 million mixed-use center including 300,000 square feet of retail space is in the works for tourist destination Branson, Mo. Developed by HCW Development Co. and managed by Urban Retail, the proposed 95-acre project will occupy 1.5 miles of waterfront along Lake Taneycomo. Phase I, the retail component, will open in spring 2005.

Manchester, Conn.'s Buckland Hills Mall becomes Shoppes at Buckland Hills this fall, as owner General Growth Properties adds new amenities and tenants to the 963,000-square-foot mall. Barnes and Noble is joining the tenant lineup with a 25,000-square-foot store. Current anchors include Filene's, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears and Dick's Sporting Goods.

Dollar General Corp. is searching for a new president and COO following the resignation of Donald Shaffer, who left to pursue other opportunities after the company chose David Perdue as its new CEO. Schaffer had been a candidate for the CEO position, and had been acting as interim CEO between November 2002 and April 2003.

Tom Carter, a former Barnes & Noble real estate director, bounced back to Fort Worth, Texas-based Trademark last month. Carter rejoined the company as a principal after spending four years as the top development officer at Steiner + Associates in Columbus. Before joining Steiner, Carter worked for Trademark for two years.
