Publix CEO passes the torch

Jul 17, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty Reagin

Lakeland, Fla. – CEO Howard Jenkins has stepped down from his position of locally based Publix Super Markets in order to spend more time with his children.

He will remain as chairman of the company but has passed the controls over to his cousin Charles Jenkins Jr. who currently serves as COO and has served on the executive committee since 1990. Under Howard Jenkins’ 11-year reign as CEO, annual sales nearly tripled to $14.6 billion.
