Webvan names CEO, planning to exit Atlanta market

Foster City, Calif. – Robert Swan was appointed CEO of locally based Webvan Group Inc., effective immediately. He succeeds George Shaheen, who recently resigned from the company. Swan joined the company in October 1999 and most recently served as Webvan’s COO.

In addition, Webvan plans to exit the Atlanta market in order to focus on its other markets, which include Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Portland, Ore. The closings will affect 485 positions. Webvan also is cutting 400 positions at its corporate offices in Foster City, Calif., and Kirkland, Wash.
