Oct 12, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty Reagin

Washington, D.C. – Consumers aged 18 to 24 years old will spend an average of $68 this year on Halloween-related items, including candy, costumes and decorations. That compares with the overall average of $45 for the 1,000 respondents in a survey conducted by Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Market Facts Inc. on behalf of the locally based National Retail Federation (NRF).

In total, sales of Halloween products are expected to reach $6.9 billion this year. More than half of those surveyed (55.3%) plan to decorate their homes to some degree. In addition, 63% say that they will buy some of the Halloween merchandise in discount stores. Drug stores will be visited by 27.8% of those surveyed.
