Home Depot evacuated

Jul 19, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty Reagin

Atlanta – Police evacuated the headquarters of locally based Home Depot Inc. yesterday when a suspicious-looking package was found in the mailroom. Police bomb experts used a robot to retrieve the package, which was found to be a large box of vibrating pagers.

Authorities were alerted to the incident after a package explosion injured two people earlier yesterday at locally based Apex Supply Co., a Home Depot subsidiary.

Later yesterday, police were investigating reports about a suspected letter bomb at a second Apex facility in Lawrenceville, an Atlanta suburb. The package was reported to be smoking.
