SuperValu to close 30 stores

Jun 5, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty M. Reagin

Minneapolis – Locally based SuperValu is closing 11 Cub Foods stores in Indiana and shuttering its 19-store Laneco group, which operates in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In a recent announcement, the chain said the move is part of a plan to focus on markets that it believes will "contribute to the company’s goal of higher return growth."

Meanwhile, SuperValu plans to expand its Save-A-Lot limited-assortment chain to 100 to 120 new stores.
