Blue Square-Israel opens new MEGA supermarkets

Rosh Haayin, Israel – Locally based Blue Square-Israel Ltd. recently opened two new branches of its successful MEGA discount supermarket chain.

The company invested $19 million to build a new 75,347 sq.-ft. MEGA, which is the first store to open in Rehovot's new "American City" business center. The MEGA offers a selection of approximately 35,000 items, as well as an electric appliance store-within-a-store franchise operated by one of Israel's appliance chains. Additional franchised stores will be opened within the MEGA, including a pharmacy, restaurant, camera center, and customer service branch of Pelephone, Israel's largest cellular phone operator.

The Company also invested NIS 1.5 million to convert a 32,291 sq.-ft. Super Center located in the Ashdod industrial zone into a state-of-the-art MEGA. Offering approximately 25,000 items, the store sells a wide variety of food and non-food items, including a broad selection of house wares, clothing, toys, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
