Retailers' expansion plans

Dec 1, 2000 12:00 PM, SHOPPING CENTER WORLD STAFF

Where the tenants you want will be in the future. Approximately 100 retailers unveiled their plans to enlarge, renovate and open a bevy of stores in the upcoming year and beyond for SCW's 2001 retailers' expansion plans survey.

Of the respondents, it seems value and convenience retailers are adopting the most aggressive expansion plans. Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens plans to open 500 new stores in 2001, with 500 additional stores online each year until 2003. Dollar Tree, Famous Footwear, Great Clips, NAPA Auto Parts, Pacific Sunwear and Sally Beauty Co. unveiled plans to open 100 stores each in 2001.

Canada and Mexico are the two international markets most of our respondents have their eyes on, with Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom attracting increasing interest.

Expansion plans for each of the respondents are listed here alphabetically by the retailer's name.

Project listings include the retailer's vital statistics as well as demographic preferences, merchandise categories and prospective international target markets.
