Circuit City announces retirement

Richmond, Va. – Locally based Circuit City Stores, Inc. announced that Richard Birnbaum, executive vice president of operations, plans to retire May 1, 2002.

Birnbaum joined Circuit City in 1972 as a part-time sales counselor in Washington, D.C. He was elected vice president in 1985, president of the company's central operating division in 1986, senior vice president of marketing in 1991 and executive vice president of operations in 1994.
