Furrs eliminates corporate staff

Jul 27, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty Reagin

Albuquerque, N.M. – Locally based Furrs Supermarkets Inc. recently announced it would terminate all positions at its corporate headquarters. This news comes just one month after Furrs agreed to sell 66 of its stores in New Mexico and west Texas to Lewisville, Texas-based Fleming Co. for $100 million.

The 170 corporate employees will be laid off as early as Sept. 17. A notice from Furrs president Steve Mortensen stated, "Our corporate headquarters will be permanently closed. All positions and jobs at this facility will be eliminated."
