May Department Stores Co. appoints new SVP

Jul 19, 2001 12:00 PM, Misty Reagin

St. Louis – Locally based May Department Stores Co. named Steve Nelson as senior vice president of stores and visual merchandising, which is a new position for the company. Nelson will begin his new role October 1, and he will report to May’s two vice chairmen, Richard Bennet III and William McNamara.

Currently, he is senior vice president of stores for Boston-based Filene’s, one of May’s department stores.

In his new position, Nelson will work with May’s store divisions to develop a more product-driven presentation of merchandise in stores, ensure consistency of compelling selling-floor presentations, lead the effort to create a “faster and easier” shopping experience, strengthen visual merchandising across all divisions, and work with May Design and Construction to refine new store and major remodel plans.
