Shopping center retail sales increase in 2000

New York – According to the locally based International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), shopping centers remained the central format for retail sales in the United States in 2000.

ICSC found that shopping centers registered more than $1.1 trillion in sales, which is a 7.3 percent increase over 1999 figures. The number of adults visiting shopping centers each month rose from 190 million in 1999 to 197 million in 2000. In addition, the total number of centers increased in 2000 to 45,025, up from 44,328 in 1999.
